Executors/Trustees
You must exercise
care in selecting executors and trustees. Neither the executor or trustee needs
any particular financial skills. Needless to say, such skills are helpful but
the key requirement if trustworthiness. Selecting adult children to be executors
is an accepted practice and adult children and other family members are certainly
qualified to serve as trustees. It is often a good idea to select a corporate
fiduciary, such as a bank or trust company, to serve as either co-executor or
co-trustee with an adult who has personal knowledge of the family situation. We
have worked with several corporate fiduciaries in the area and can make a recommendation
to you. A corporate fiduciary brings professionalism and continuity to the administration
of the estate or trust. Both executors and trustees are entitled to fees pursuant
to state law.
